"The unsurpassed beauty to be found in this part
of Southwestern Wisconsin will surprise you with every
bend in the road."
"State Highway 131 north of Rockton is one of the most
lovely - and definitely the crookedist - stretches of
highway in all of Wisconsin. Your route will cross the
Kickapoo River at least five times in a five mile stretch."

Continued Threat to the Kickapoo Valley
The unique geology, biology and peaceful beauty
of the Kickapoo Valley will be destroyed by the Wisconsin Department
of Transportation's (WDOT) plan to cut a new major truck route
through the narrow valley along the Kickapoo River between Rockton
and Ontario in Vernon County.
Their plan calls for cutting the hillsides, filling
the valleys and wetlands, and widening the clearing of the existing
road to at least twice and in places several times its present
width!
Local residents, environmentalists, business owners,
and outdoor sports enthusiasts have joined together under the
banner of the Kickapoo Valley Stewardship Alliance to fight
the WDOT plan and protect this 300 million year old, unglaciated
valley.
