Shoe Fly! members live in the Kickapoo River Valley of southwestern Wisconsin. The Kickapoo is one of the oldest rivers in North America and over time it's waters have cut deep, narrow valleys, called coulees locally, between high hills. Today, the Kickapoo Valley is dotted with farms and towns attracting people from all over who enjoy both the scenic beauty and the small town life of this area.

Shoe Fly! began here as friends and neighbors gathering informally at parties, jam sessions and local events to play instruments, sing and dance. The enjoyment of traditional music and dance soon became the basis for a strong community, bringing together many people with diverse interests and perspectives.

Shoe Fly! members are teachers, farmers, apple pickers, artists, secretaries, piano tuners and more. Our musical interests and influences include old time, bluegrass, Irish, Canadian and Eastern European traditions. Though our backgrounds are varied, we all have a deep appreciation of music and dance traditions and their role in building a sense of community.

Having discovered the joy of making music and dancing together, we seek to share this with others.
