Programs at the Gays Mills Library

The Gays Mills Public Library has activities for all ages. Story Hour has been an ongoing event for decades. Developed for the preschool set and happening most Wednesdays starting the second Wednesday of October and ending in mid May, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. At story hour we play circle games, sing songs, do fingerplays, tell and read stories and end up with an art project. Story Hour provides fun social opportunities for the young child that encourages participation and acceptance.

The Library also hosts two yearly events for older children. In April, just before May Day we make baskets to leave on the doorsteps of our neighbors in celebration of Springs arrival. In December, on the second Saturday, we decorate gingerbread houses for the holiday season.

The Summer Reading Program, a 4-6 week program during the summer, is also for school age children. Programs may involve any or all of the following activities; games, art, storytelling, plays and, of course, reading.

For adults, the library along with the Friends of the Gays Mills Public Library has launched a book discussion group on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM. The first theme our reading group tackled was freedom. Future themes may be family, travel, economics for the people or whatever the members of the reading group propose. The titles chosen for the theme attempt to explore it from unexpected angles.

The Library strives to provide more programming that can be accommodated at the library, so new programs may be developing in the future. Check back in the future in case we have something you might like to participate in.
