COULEE CONFERENCE POINTS OF ETIQUETTE

I. Know the rules.

Each team should quiz individuals to be sure they are ready for competitive play.

Have a current edition of the USGA - The Rules of Golf in your possession.

Read Section I Courtesy on the Course

  Read Section II Definitions

Use Section III for test Rules of the Game.

The USGA prints a "Golf Rules and  Pictures" Available at stores.

II. Pace of Play

a. Tee with honors with declared marked ball. ( Provisionals and/or penalty shots after all initially tee off.)

b. Furthest out from hole hit one at a time (help look for balls).

c. Let everyone on green before anyone putts.

d. Do not take divots when practice swinging, replace all divots, rake bunkers and repair marks on the green.

e. Mark ball on green. Putt in order of distance from hole (unless putting out to finish without standing in one’s line).

f. When in doubt of a rule play a provisional and ask committee later.

g. Announce score. The recorder needs to hear you declare your score for the hole. Announce an arabic numeral (par, bogey or bad..

etc. is of no value). This is the time to question. It is not rude and is quite proper. (To question after the card is signed without

    questioning earlier is rude.)

III. Scoring

a. Count every stroke with identified ball (mark it)

b. Announce penalty strokes.

c. Announce provisional and/or additional strokes in order of play.

d. Announce score using an arabic numeral. ("Four" - not "Par" and seek out the scorer; don’t make him chase you down.)

e. Record your own score on the bottom of the card you are scoring. (You can use it to double check your card before signing it.)

f. Read your score and double check each hole before you sign it.

IV. Sportsmanship     requires proper etiquette. Unsportsman-like behavior (including swearing), agreement to

break rules or a rule infraction can all result in a Disqualification. Please no DQs!
