Saturday, May 16th
CCV hosted the Stewartville Sharks in the first game of the 2009 season for the Blues. After 3 scoreless innings, the Sharks scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th off Blues starter Evan Buhr. CCV cut the deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the 4th and 6th, but Stewartville put the game away with a single run in the 7th and 2 more in the 9th. Buhr took the loss, striking out 4 and walking 4. Josh Schultz was 2-4 with a double, Sam Henriksen had a triple and Mike Tolvstad was 2-5 to lead CCV at the plate.

Saturday, May 16
In the 2nd game of a Saturday DH against two different teams, the Blues welcomed the Hudson River Rats to "The Park" in Coon Valley. Craig Larson took the mound for CCV in his first start of the 2009 season and held the River Rats in check until the 5th inning. The Blues scored early and took a 8-1 lead into the 5th, when Hudson scored 4 runs. Sam Henriksen came on in relief of Larson and the game see-sawed back and forth with the Blues finally coming away with a 10-9 win. Henriksen picked up the win in relief, striking out 3 and walking 4. Josh Schultz had the big bat, going 3-4 with a HR and DB and 6 rbi's. Getting 2 hits apiece for CCV were Henriksen, Andy Russell, Bobby Raasch, Kevin Wagner and Corey Geary.

Sunday, May 17
The hills were resounding with the sound of bats cracking balls all over the place at "The Park" in Coon Valley. The Blues bombarded Lansing pitching for 28 hits and scored 21 runs while limiting the Mudcats to 1 run on 11 hits. Zach Rickaway picked up the win for CCV, pitching 5 innings, striking out 10 while walking only 2. The hit parade for the Blues is lengthy, but leading the way were Adam Wershofen (5-5) and Corey Geary (4-5).

Wednesday, May 20
The La Crescent Cardinals and the CCV Blues always have a battle when they play. Wednesday night at "The Park" in Coon Valley was no different. The Cardinals scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Blues came back big in the 3rd, scoring 5 times, with the big hit being a bases loaded double by Adam Husing. CCV added an additional run in the 6th to take a 6-2 lead. But, La Crescent wasn't done, and overcame the 6-2 deficit, scoring 4 in the 7th and adding 2 more in the 8th to take an 8-6 lead and that turned out to be the final score. Blues pitchers struggled all night, giving up 10 walks. Drew White took the loss in relief. Adam Wershofen continued his hot hitting going 4-5 and now has 9 hits in 10 At-Bats.

Friday, May 22
The Chaseburg-Coon Valley Blues traveled to Winona to face the Chiefs in a non-league game on Friday night. One big inning was enough for the Blues, scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning for a 5-1 victory. Tim Larson pitched 6+ innings of 3 hit ball for CCV, striking out 8. Sam Henriksen was strong in relief of Larson. Adam Wershofen continued his hot hitting going 3-4 and now has 12 hits in his first 14 AB's.

Saturday, May 23
The Eau Claire Cavaliers traveled to Coon Valley for their 1st game of the 2009 season and went home on the loosing end of a 6-5 Chaseburg-Coon Valley win. The Blues started fast, scoring 2 in the 1st inning on HR by Matt Hoff. The game see-sawed back and forth after that with the Cavaliers taking the lead 5-4 with a single run in the top of the 9th. CCV came back to win in the bottom of the 9th by loading the bases and the winning run was scored on a single by Jay Fanta. Adam Wershofen picked up the win in relief after coming on in the top of the 9th. Zach Rickaway pitched the first 5 innings, with Mike Tolvstad coming on in relief in the 6th.

Monday, May 25
The bats were alive and well again on Memorial Day as the Blues hosted the Norwalk Knights in MVL opener for CCV. Nick Jones took his first start on the mound for the Blues and gave up 2 runs in the first inning, walking the first batter and hitting the second. But, once the Blues got to bat, the momentum changed quickly as CCV scored 4 in the 1st and 12 in the 2nd to take a commanding lead. Andy Russell pitched the final 2 innings in relief of Jones and the Blues ended up with 25 runs on 26 hits. Russell (4-6), Matt Hoff (3-3), Josh Schultz (3-3) and Bobby Raasch (3-4) lead CCV at the plate.

The Blues traveled to Austin, MN on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Greyhounds. CCV squandered a 6-0 lead in the first game as Austin tied it with a 6 run 5th inning. The Blues bounced back with 4 runs in the 6th highlighted by a 2 out 3 rbi single by Bobby Raasch. Zach Rickaway picked up the win in relief of starter Evan Buhr. Sam Henriksen was (4-4) and Kevin Wagner and Buhr had 2 hits apiece.
In game, CCV wins its 5th in a row, sweeping the dh from Austin 7-1. Josh Schultz's 2 run triple was the big hit in a 3 run 3rd inning. Adam Wershofen was (3-4). Sam Henriksen and Bobby Raasch had 2 hits apiece. Nick Jones pitched a 6 hitter for 5 innings to pick up the win. Sam Henriksen pitched 2 innings of 1 hit baseball in relief of Jones.

Wednesday, June 3

A new team, the Prairie du Chien Storm hosted the CCV Blues in a non-league game on Wednesdy night and probably wondered what kind of food they are feeding the baseball players up north of them... The Blues scored 6 runs in the first inning, then won going away 21-0. Mike Tolvstad pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball, walking only 1 and striking out 11. Leading CCV at the plate were Bobby Raasch, Corey Geary and Kevin Wagner with 3 hits apiece. Adam Wershofen, Ryan Fahey had 2 hits apiece and Adam Husing was 2-5 with a triple, 4 runs scored and 3 rbi's. The Blues have now won 6 in a row and have a record of 8-2

Sunday, June 7
Andy Russell's 2 out single in the top of the 10th drove in the winning run. Matt Hoff's 3 run homer added some insurance runs as the Blues hit the Millers with a 5 run 10th inning. The 9-4 win over Sparta put the CCV MVL record at 2-0 going into a big league game with the La Crosse Athletics on Friday, May 12th. Adam Wershofen picked up the win coming on in relief in the 8th inning. Nick Jones started and pitched 6 innings giving up 1 run. Sam Henriksen came on in relief of Jones in the 7th. The Blues played great defense all day. Leading CCV were Josh Schultz (4-4) and Corey Geary and Russell with 2 hits apiece.
