Sunday, June 14

The CCV Blues hosted the Bangor Redbirds in a MVL game on Sunday night at "The Park". It was a close ballgame all the way and strong pitching by both teams domininated over hitting. But, the Blues overcame the lack of firepower and a couple of errors to defeat the Redbirds 5-3 to remain unbeaten in the MVL and to extend their winning streak to 11. Evan Buhr picked up the win for CCV and Adam Wershofen was 2-4.

Blues Leaders: Adam Wershofen is batting .615 with 15 stolen bases. Josh Schultz is hitting .522 with 27 rbi's. Nick Jones has a 3-0 record.

Tuesday, June 16
Last Friday, one of the Blues players said, "We never feel that we are out of a game." That statement proved prophetic on Tuesday night at "The Park" when CCV overcame a 7-1 deficit to defeat Sparta Miller 11-7 in an NBC District Tournament game. The Miller's scored 4 in the first off Blues starter Zach Rickaway and then 3 more in the 2nd off reliever Ryan Fahey to put the Blues in a7-1 hole. The comeback started in the top of the third as CCV scored 2 runs and continued with Andy Russell taking the mound for the Blues in the bottom of the third. Russell turned in another outstanding relief performance, pitching the remaining 5innings, giving up 1 hit and picking up the win, his 2nd of the season. Adam Husing's 2 out double in the 6th put CCV ahead for good 8-7. Matt Hoff provided some insurance runs with a hr in the 7th.

Saturday, June 20
You don't hit, and you don't score runs. You don't score runs, and you won't win... Pretty simple really. That is what happened to the Blues as they traveled to La Crescent and were beaten by the Cardinals 3-0. Nick Jones took the loss for CCV pitching 7 innings and allowing the three runs on 7 hits. A good pitching performance and with the Blues playing the way they were, would have usually meant a win. But, a bump in the road will be there during a long season and this was one... CCV winning streak stopped at 12.

Monday, June 22

The NBC District Tournament continued on Monday night in Coon Valley as the CCV Blues faced the La Crescent Cardinals. The star of the game was Andy Russell who pitched and hit the Blues to a 4-0 victory over the Cardinals. Russell pitched a 3-hit shutout and had two hits, including a 2-run double in the 5th to extend CCV's lead to 3-0. The Blues defense shined and three outstanding defensive plays by the infield made Russell's job a little easier on the mound. With the victory, the Blues advanced to the NBC District Championship game on July 1st at 8:45 in CV and also advanced to the NBC State Tournament in Sauk City on July 10-11. Jay Fanta had two hits for CCV. Russell has been impressive on the mound and has allowed only 1 earned run in 19 innings.
