The Hogtown Stompers

Jug Band Music from the Kickapoo Valley

The Hogtown Stompers is a 4-to-6 piece (depending on the night) jug band from the Kickapoo valley in Vernon and Crawford counties Wisconsin.

They play a mix of traditional jug band music, swing, blues, and ragtime from the 1890's through the 30's, as well as some originals and a few jug band tunes from the folk revival of the 60's and 70's.
Whatever they play, they get the place jumpin!
Dave Burton leads the rhythm section on his tenor banjo, mandolin, or tenor guitar, supported by Greg Cheesebro on the washtub, and a rotation of guests on the washboard.  Kathy Casper whips a melody line on the fiddle; Dave Hoyt picks out a lead or fills in the middle on the guitar.  Every member of the band is likely to sing at some point during the show.

Ragtime jug-band may be the bastard child of the blues or the roots of jazz -- one thing is for sure, it is the funnest music ever invented.  If you aren't dancing when the Stompers play, then you've got either a broken knee or are passed out drunk in the corner.

"The Hog Town Stompers have got it going on! They've got a great blend of instruments, vocals, respect for both the white and African American string band tradition and the necessary fun and passion to make it all gel. Its jug band music that'll stick to your ribs!" -- John Fabke, WORT-FM

"...sincere performers...warm, entertaining...a real audience pleasing act..." -- Jonathan Overby, host of Wisconsin Public Radio's Higher Ground
