Current Issues and Concerns

• WDOT's failure to evaluate any reasonable alternative road alignments in the Final Environmental Impact Statement;
• Safety concerns
• Car-deer accidents
• Flawed environmental impact statement (EIS)
• Incompatible traffic mix (high speed trucks, bikes, and farm equipment)
• Fragmentation of species habitat;
• Pollution - air, noise, light, thermal, runoff, litter;
• Adverse effects in parks and communities along Highway 131;
• Lack of statewide public hearing locations;
• Misleading graphics and other information presented at the local hearings;
• Public reponse 6 to 1 against WDOT's "preferred alternative" remains unheeded;
• Cuts Through Parkland and Archeological Sites
• Noise Levels - Highways that pass through park areas are required to meet certain noise standards. Independent studies suggest that the increased traffic on Highway 131 far exceed these standards;
