Domino Topple Activity
Several years ago a
group of college students in Europe attempted to break the record for the most
dominos toppled. They set up 1,500,000
dominos in a large arena. After the dust
cleared they managed to topple 1,382,101 dominos. How long did it take to topple all those dominos?
To set up how to find
the answer, we will conduct several domino-toppling experiments and time each
one with a stopwatch.
The experiments will include domino topples of 40,
60, 80, 100, 120, 130, and 150 dominos.
Each group will be given a bag of dominos. You are to take as many time trials as
possible and take the average to report to the class.

1) Enter
the class data into your graphing calculator.
2) Find
both the linear regression and the med-med regression using your
calculator. Indicate them in the space
provided.
Linear Regression: _______________________ Med-Med Regression: _______________
3) Find
the mean
absolute errar and root mean squared error for both
regressions:
Linear mean absolute errar ________ Med-Med mean absolute errar __________
Linear root mean squared error ______ Med-med root mean squared error _______
4) State
which equation is the better one and why.
5) Predict how long it took to topple the
1,382,101 dominos using both equations.
Which one seems to be the most reasonable?
