Pre-Calculus Requirements and Grading Policy
Grading Policy
You will determine your academic grade.Grades will be calculated by totaling up the point values of daily assignments, quizzes, group work, projects, papers, and other forms of assessment.If at ANY TIME you have questions about your grade, make an appointment to see your instructor.

You will be evaluated by the following percentage: 

85 – 100          A

75 –84            B

65 –74            C

55 –64            D

Below 55        F

Classroom Materials

You are required to have a 2 – 3”3-ring notebook, 4-5 dividers, loose-leaf paper, a ruler at home, writing utensils, and a scientific/graphing calculator.You are also expected to cover your textbook.

Classroom Expectations

You are expected to:
>come to class on time every day.
>come prepared to work bringing all your materials
>be respectful of the teacher, other students, and the property of the school and
others 

>take notes 

>participate during class discussions and problem demonstrations 

You are expected to comply with all student policies listed in the Wisconsin Heights High School Student Handbook.You are also expected to demonstrate respect for your peers and any adult in the classroom by using socially acceptable language, appropriately participating in the classroom activities, and following teacher instructions. 

Extra Help

I am available 1st and 2ndhour and before/after school.Please make arrangements to see me since I might not be in my room at those times.Do not hesitate to come and see me; I am here to help you learn.

Methods of Evaluation

A.Class/Homework Projects
·75-200 pts
·open-ended
·emphasis on problem solving
·either in groups, individual, or partners 

·extensive investigation and exploration 

B.Authentic Assessment/Exams 

·75 – 120 pts 

·emphasis on your thinking process using mathematics 

·usually every 2-3 weeks 

·one fourth of the exam could consist of material from previous units 

C.Smaller Class/Homework Assignments 

·similar to part A but shorter duration 

·15-35 pts 

D. Quizzes/Quests

·30-100 pts
·usually 1 a week
·can include material from previous units
·can be on the homework assignment

E.Daily assignments 

·10 pts per assignment 

·(-2) not quite finished 

·(-4) missing ¼ of your assignment 

·(-6) either missing 1/3 of your assignment or no work shown 

·(-8) did a couple of problems 

·(-10) no homework 

·I will look at your homework on a daily basis. 

·It should take you approximately 20 – 45 minutes to complete your homework 

·You are required to take daily notes.This will be a part of your daily assignment grade and incomplete notes will be handled on the same scale as above. 

F. Cooperative group work

·10-30 pts
·you will be assessed on:
a)how well you work together as a group
b)your mathematical understanding and reasoning
c)neatness of your work 

d)oral presentation 

e)display of your data 

G. Journal Entries

·5-25 pts
·you will be evaluated on how well you respond to the journal questions

H. Homework Exercises

·occasionally you will be expected to put problems on the board and explain how you solved the problem
·if you do not understand the problem, you are expected to write down the solution to the problem in your notes
·if no one understood the problem, we will review the problem during class
