NatureWool: Natural Handspun Yarns, Plant Dyed Fibers and more from Rainbow Homestead |

plant dyes, insect dyes and earth pigments are the traditional sources for adding color to textiles, to expand the neutral range of colors that fibers are grown in (shades of white, grey, brown, black, etc.) Plant dyes/recipes are "steeped" in history, however they have much to offer to the modern dyer. Rich, glowing jewel tones, to soft whispering pastels, the colors are at once exciting, comforting and familiar, yet plant dyes will continually surprise you. We have found that much like the riot of colors in a bright flower garden, Nature can combine colors in ever surprising and pleasing ways. In other words, it would seem that plant dyed colors seem to enhance each other, rather than clashing. We offer plant dyes and extracts from Earthues, by Michele Wipplinger, her company has searched out traditional dyestuffs and created concentrated extracts to offer the modern dyer a wider range of colors from combining dye extracts to create compound colors. In addition to dyeing yarn/fleece, these extracts are very suitable to painting cloth, etc. They are harvested and concentrated in a sustainable, environmentally friendly process.
