Pastoral Paragraph: After being lulled into a sense of southern climates and breaking a

record for the warmest January 10 ever, the week ended snowy and frigid.  God was probably

chuckling as he reminded us that we live in Wisconsin not Texas!

Today we welcome through baptism Liam James Kabat, the son of Tanner and Emily (Tully)

Kabat.  We congratulate Liam and his parents and pray for God’s blessings on his entire family!

Thank you to everyone who helped with the putting away of the Christmas decorations

and cleaning-up the church.  It always helps to have extra hands to make the work a little lighter

and quicker.

Next Sunday, January 22, we will observe a Holy Hour for Life from 11:00 am – Noon.

We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and an opportunity for individual prayer and

adoration with the special theme of praying for life issues and an end to abortion.  The US Catholic

Bishops request special prayers at this time and have designated January 23 as a Day of Penance

for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.  The Holy

Hour will begin immediately after the 10:00 am Mass next weekend; please make plans to attend

or to stay a while after the 10:00 am Mass.

During the 4:00 and 10:00 Masses on February 11 and 12 we will have the Anointing of

the Sick.  It seems as though it has been some time since we’ve had an anointing service here

for the parish community.  This sacrament is open to anyone with acute or chronic illness or

infirmities due to disabilities or age.  Please plan on attending and bring neighbors and loved ones

to Mass on that weekend to receive the benefit of this Sacrament.  The date of this service

coincides with the World Day of Prayer for the Sick celebrated each year near the feast-day of

Our Lady of Lourdes (February 11).

During this past week we buried one of our life-long parishioners, Albert “Seed” Penchi.

It was a beautiful tribute to a fine man who spent his life in service to the community and with

devotion to his family.  Many, many people came to the visitation at church on Tuesday evening

and again for the funeral on Wednesday morning.  I think gathering in the church for visitation or

wake services is a very good practice.  Not only is it convenient for people in the area, but it is

where our faith community gathers.  Thank you to everyone who help in so many ways at the

time of a parishioner’s death: Larry Pedretti who is so faithful in tending to the cemetery; Jon

Pedretti who assisted with opening the grave; Ann Lee for organizing the luncheon; Marilyn Domke

and Julie Tully for music, and Val Cina for extra cleaning in the church.  All are gifts of service

to one another!  May Albert and all our beloved dead rest in peace!

May you and your families have a most blessed week.

Annual Appeal.  Another special Thank You to everyone who contributed to the Appeal as

everything over our goal is returned to the parish!

The Genoa State Bank made a generous donation of $500 to the parish.  Thank you!

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children As noted in the

Recent Chancery Bulletin, the U.S. Bishops have designated Monday, January 23 as a

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children (since January 22

falls on a Sunday).  The bishops are encouraging priests throughout the country to celebrate

that day the “Mass for Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life,” contained in the

revised Roman Missal.  Additional prayer and worship resources (Mass intercessions,

other devotions) can be found by clicking on the “USCCB Respect Life Liturgy Guide”

link on the front page of the diocesan website.  Also recall from the Chancery Bulletin

that the deacons of the Diocese are presiding, at Bishop Callahan’s request, at the
