Pastoral Paragraph: Tuesday, November 1 is the Feast of All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. Father Cook will be here for Mass at 8:30 AM. On this day we remember all those holy men and women who share Heaven with God and show us great examples of what it means to be holy.
On Wednesday November 2 we observe the Commemoration of All Souls when we remember all those who have died. Father Cook will again be here for Mass at 8:30 AM. On this day we continue to pray for all our beloved dead that one day they may be joined in Heaven with God. Recently I’ve had a couple of conversations with people who wonder if it’s only the “saints” that the Church declares to be a Saint who are in heaven. Indeed not! We are all called to sainthood and to live with our Lord in heaven for eternity. That includes our family members and loved ones who have gone before us marked by the sign of faith. As a special reminder of our “communion” with the saints and “all souls” we invite you to bring to church pictures of your family members or friends who have died. We will display them in church through the feast of Christ the King on November 20. This is for anyone, not just for those who have died this past year. It would be helpful, but not necessary, if the picture is in a frame that could stand on its own. Simply place them in the box at the main entrance of the Church. Please make sure that all pictures are marked with your name, so that we can return them to the rightful owners.
On the evening of All Souls Day, Wednesday November 2 at 7:00 PM we will have a Remembrance Service for all of our departed loved ones but particularly for those who have died over the past two years. Everyone is invited and welcome and we particularly invite those who have had loved ones buried from St. Charles in the past two years. We will have a litany of their names and the placement of a lighted candle for each of them. Loved ones who have died since October 2009 and have had their funeral or burial here at St. Charles include:
Trent Pedretti Margaret Browne Beverly Greenwell
Jo Ann Garvalia Jean Nickelotti Shirley Gillespie
Roland Fox Judy Jambois John Brendel
Mary Jane Waite Ernabelle Cina Joseph Helgeson

The Saint Luigi Celebration: The members of our family reunion group would like to extend a very special THANK YOU to all who helped make our celebration of St. Luigi a huge success. The turnout far exceeded our expectations and the number of people who volunteered and donated food speaks volumes for the quality of people in this community. We truly appreciate the enthusiastic response measured both in attendance and in the kind comments we received about our exhibits. Be assured that our gratitude is shared not only among us but by our counterparts in Campodolcino. On Monday Luigi and Michaela Fanetti called from Italy to inquire about the celebration and were overjoyed to hear that so many people understood and appreciated the significance of St. Luigi’s portrait as a gift to our parish. It represents an important connection to our homeland that we will continue to nurture well into the future. Bill Trussoni, Gary Venner, and “members of St. Luigi’s Family”

The New Translation of the Roman Missal will be implemented on the First Sunday of Advent. One question that is sometimes asked is, “Will we really notice the changes?” The answer is, “Yes.” In the third edition of the Roman Missal, almost every prayer in the Mass – those spoken by the priest and those spoken by the people – has been re-translated from the Latin to English. Some prayers now recited by memory will need to be relearned, and the familiar language of many prayers recited by the priest will change. The language that the faithful will hear and pray is more formal and somewhat more complex than the language of ordinary conversation. It conveys rich theological concepts and retains biblical language and images. Next week we will attach to the bulletin a copy of the principle new texts that will be used. That will give you an opportunity to review some of the changes and see first hand what the some of the new text will be like.
Diocesan Annual Appeal – We are the Diocese! We are very pleased with the number of gifts/pledges that have already been processed toward our parish goal of $11,640. As of this past week we have had $6,375.00 gifted or pledged which represents about 54% of the goal. There is still plenty of time to make your gift or pledge. No gift is too small, and the pledge option provides a way too make a modest monthly gift have greater impact. Thank you for your participation!
Church Bulletin Please forward your information for the church bulletin to the St. Charles School office by Wednesday of each week at 689-2642 or stcharle@mwt.net
