Pastoral Paragraph:  I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday.  It’s wonderful that we have a national holiday so that we can pause and give thanks, but we should always remember to give thanks to Our Lord for his great goodness.

So, now that you’re all “turkey’d out” its time to get ready for the Annual Steak Fry next Saturday, December 3 at the Retreat Sportsmen’s Club.  It promises to be a most enjoyable evening.  There will be a Chinese Raffle, Silent Auction with theme baskets, and a Live Auction.  I was looking over the sign-up sheets in Church and it looks like we have some wonderful items already being prepared: holiday and New Year’s Eve baskets; a Packer basket, books, pictures, and photography.  The live auction items include a ¼ beef, a quilt, a ½ hog, and a magnificent hand crafted wood Barn that will make any future farmer delighted at Christmas!  Visit the sign-up sheets; we still need a few more workers, and get your tickets after Mass.

On the 16th of November the Finance Committee met and approved a proposal from Penchi Construction to replace the storage garage behind the school.  This is the building that houses most of the supplies for the 4th of July Picnic.  The project began just before Thanksgiving with the old building being removed.  Soon we’ll have a new 20 X 24 storage unit with a 16’ garage door and a utility door!  The project is made possible through a most generous donation from Peter Clark.  We thank him most gratefully!

As reported last week we have reached our goal for the Diocesan Annual Appeal!  I want to sincerely thank those of you who have made responses for the benefit of our parish!  I know there are some gifts and pledges that have not yet been tabulated that will put us well over the top of the assessed goal.  All of those funds will be rebated back to St. Charles Parish.  Because of the Thanksgiving holiday we don’t have an updated contribution amount, but we expect to receive a new report this next week.

May this first week of Advent be one of blessing for your and your families as we joyfully look forward to the celebration of Our Lord’s birth.

Deacon Richard

Steak Fry is scheduled for Saturday December 3.  We need donated pies, cakes and bars for the dessert table and theme baskets for the Silent Auction.  $500 CashBoard will again be offered selling 40 squares, Gun Raffles, Cash Bar and tip Boards are just some of the festivities. Dinner will be served from 5pm – 8 pm and tickets are still available. Donations can be dropped off at the Retreat Hall Friday afternoon, December 2, 2011.  Deacon Sage also offered to take some donated items over to Retreat Hall.  Contact Deacon Sage at 689-2646 before dropping off your items. Thank you for your continued support.

Salvation Army Bell Ringers Once again we are looking for volunteers to help with the Salvation Army Bell Ringers.  Last year approximately $10,175.00 was raised and donated to fire victims, needy families, Vernon County food pantries, Toys for Tots and 62 students in need of school supplies.  Four locations are included in this Bell Ringing: Wal-Mart (outside), Agri Center (outside), Village Market (inside), Viroqua Food Coop (inside).  Ringing schedules can be from 1-2 hrs or you may schedule longer if you wish.  Ringing will begin November 18, 2011 thru December 27, 2011.  We also have Kettles for table top donations if you know of a business interested in setting up a display.  My contact information is gilardi2@frontiernet.net.  Thank you, Linda Gilardi
