Thanks to the School & PTO For Wonderful Christmas Program & Meal: Last Sunday the School students assisted at Mass and then participated in a wonderful Christmas program for the Parish which was very well received. The PTO, assisted by the Walleser families, provided an excellent meal for all. The Parish is appreciative. Thank you Teachers, students, and PTO!
Season of Advent: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” – God with us. Advent is a joyous time with our families and parish extending love to one another. But Advent, like Lent, is an opportunity to better prepare for that period to come when Lord Jesus will instantaneously review our life and assign our place for eternity. So some of us need to slow down in this busy season – not to smell the roses, but rather to quietly talk with Jesus in Prayer, to hear His gentle knock on our door, and to invite Him in and discuss with Him what changes are needed in our lives.
Advent Confessions: Additional hours for individual Confessions – Saturday December 22 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Church.
Christmas Mass Schedule: Christmas Eve at 4 and 8 PM, and 10 AM Christmas Day.
Parish Youth Christmas Mass: If your family is planning to attend Mass on Christmas Eve at 4 PM, please consider taking part in the liturgy or the living Nativity Scene. There is something for everyone! Please volunteer and call Coordinator Cathy Stevenson at 648-3577.
Choir Practice: The Choir will practice right after the 10 AM Mass on December 23rd, and all interested parishioners are invited to participate.
Mass with the Pope at Yankee Stadium: Pope Benedict is visiting the United States next April. Bishop Listecki will concelebrate the Mass at Yankee Stadium on April 20. The diocese expects to receive an allocation of tickets for this Mass and is asking every Parish to submit Names of people interested in going. Please call Fr Roy if interested.
Former Art Teacher at St Charles Invited to White House: Chris Hall, our former Art Teacher participated in “Christmas in the National Parks” program of decorating the Whitehouse Christmas Tree with ornamental art depicting the 391 National Park sites. Chris’ ornament depicted the Mississippi river and bluffs with overlays of bear and bird mounds. She was at the Whitehouse reception November 28, and did meet Mrs. Bush. Chris has considered doing a mural in our school gym depicting the Mississippi river. Perhaps we need to encourage her more to do the mural. Congratulations Chris Hall!
Diocese Annual Appeal: The Diocese Annual Appeal pledge and gift campaign was a success. As of December 11, we received 73 pledges and gifts totaling $13,613. This exceeds our target of $7,769, and we will get the full difference in much-needed rebates. Thanks for being faithful stewards of God’s gifts and blessings.
Fr Schulte Cemetery Memorial: The Cemetery Committee has ordered a beautiful Stone & Carving in Memorial of Fr Schulte for installation in the spring at a cost of $9,000. This will add to the beauty and sacredness of the Cemetery. Donations can be mailed to the parish or included in the collection basket identified as for the Memorial. Total donations to-date: $8030. Any donations in excess of $9,000 will be used for perpetual care.
RCIA Candidates: Anyone interested in fully joining the Catholic Church (Baptism, and/or Confirmation/Eucharist), please contact Father Roy at the rectory.
CCD/Confirmation Classes this Week: Wednesday December 19 at 6:45 PM. Grades 1-2 meet at the School; all other grades and Confirmation meet at the Church.
Adopt A Door Program: Thanks to all who are donating to the Adopt a Door Program. The classroom doors are in and look beautiful. Next, we would like to replace the three bathroom doors at a cost of $2700. We have $1200 pledged toward this effort. Anyone interested in helping out can contact Lori George at 608-648-2024. These doors are scheduled to be installed just after the first of the year.
Wendy’s Night: The next Wendy’s Night will be on Sunday, December 16th from 5-8 PM. Families may want to do some holiday shopping and stop in for supper before heading home.
Church Bulletin: Please forward your information for the church bulletin to the St. Charles School office by Wednesday of each week at 689‑2642 or stcharle@mwt.net
