1st Annual St Charles Parish Steak Fry & Fellowship/Holiday Party a Great Success. Despite snow and ice delaying us 1-day, our initial Parish Steak Fry fundraiser at the Retreat Sportsman Club was a great success. Attendance and fellowship were good, and things went smoothly (special thanks to the two auctioneers and helpers). A total of 310 steak dinners were served (plus pork chop dinners/extra’s) to very good reviews from the guests (thanks to Steve’s Country Meats & Buck Walleser’s steak grilling crew). And the event was a financial success, netting $6789 for the Parish, due of course to all the volunteer time and donated items. Special thanks to the Wallesers (Kevin & Anne Marie, Buck & Shirley, and sister Alice) for hosting the event at the Retreat Sportsman Club. Also, thanks to the Parish Council for a job well done, and to the Parishioners who volunteered time, donated items, and attended. Also thanks to the Catholic Knights who cancelled their Sunday PM event at the last minute to not conflict with our rescheduled event. And finally, thanks to God, for His faithfulness to St Charles Parish – the large turnout for a changed-time on such short notice must have been the Holy Spirit working in the hearts of many people. Season of Advent: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” – God with us. Advent is a joyous time with our families and parish extending love to one another. Our Western traditions include gifts, Christmas Wreaths and Trees, and the Manger Scene of Mary Joseph and the infant Jesus, and all of the Advent season includes that anticipation and joy. But the Advent season is also a time of preparation for the Other Coming of Jesus – “Come, Lord Jesus” - His Coming in Glory at the time of the New Heaven and the New Earth, which will include our resurrected body rejoining our souls to live eternally with God. We need to follow Lord Jesus now, to experience His presence now - in the Eucharist - in our sufferings - in the people and events of our lives – to qualify for that future Coming of Lord Jesus. So Advent, like Lent, is an opportunity to better prepare for that period to come when Lord Jesus will instantaneously review our life and assign our place for eternity. So some of us need to slow down in this busy season – not to smell the roses, but rather to quietly talk with Jesus in Prayer, to hear His gentle knock on our door, and to invite Him in and discuss with Him what changes are needed in our lives.

Diocese Annual Appeal: The Diocese Annual Appeal pledge and gift campaign was a success. As of December 4, we received 72 pledges and gifts totaling $13,313. This exceeds our target of $7,769, and we will get the full difference in much-needed rebates. Thanks for being faithful stewards of God’s gifts and blessings.
Schulte Family Sends $2000 for Cemetery Memorial: Fr Lyle Schulte, has sent $2000 from the Schulte family for the Cemetery Memorial to Fr Oswald Schulte. Donations can be mailed to the parish or included in the collection basket identified as for the Memorial. Total donations to-date: $7880. Any donations in excess of $9,000 will be used for perpetual care.
