Lent: Lent is a call for further conversion to holiness, a turning back to the Lord with whole-heartedness, a renewal of our baptismal promises to reject sin and profess our faith in Jesus. And, Lent is the time to do so, a season of prayer, alms and good deeds, and fasting, an acceptable time to God for making progress in our eternal salvation.
Wednesday Stations of the Cross & Benediction at 7:00 PM: During Lent, we will have Stations of the Cross & the Benediction Blessing on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.
CCD/Confirmation Classes this Week: Classes continue this Wednesday, February 20 at 6:45 PM at the school.
Offering of the Cup, the Blood of Christ, at Weekend Masses: Many Parishes offer both the Eucharist Host and the Cup at Communion, and some of the faithful that are present receive both. The Eucharistic Minister offers the Cup stating: The Blood of Christ and the person carefully takes and returns the Cup responding “Amen.” Here at St Charles, the Cup has not been offered for some time. The priest is required to participate in both, but it is optional for the other Mass attendees. Certain mandatory Words of the Mass at Consecration encourage use of the Cup: “Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood…” Also, one of the four responses to “Let us proclaim the mystery of faith” is as follows: When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, Lord Jesus, until you come in glory. Two extra Eucharistic Ministers will be needed for well-attended Masses, and the Cup requires any left over to be immediately consumed, and the Cups carefully purified.
St. Charles Preschool & Kindergarten Round-Up for children 2 and older is scheduled for Thursday, February 21 from 4 – 6 PM at the St. Charles School. Parents will have an opportunity to sign up their child for a preschool screening appointment scheduled for March 6th. The screening will assist parents in understanding their child’s particular development stage, and provide an opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns regarding their child’s development.
