Replacement/Repair of Sidewalk, Ramp, and Front Church Steps will begin this Tuesday, August 25, and may take up to 10 days to complete.  Thus, there will be no church services Tuesday – Friday of this week.  The Weekend Masses will be at the normal times on Saturday and Sunday – if the work is not competed by next Saturday, the two Weekend Masses will be held in the School Gymnasium.  The work area will be fenced off.

The Building & Grounds Committee last Monday unanimously approved going ahead with the work as proposed by Pat Cina and David Nickelatti.  The agreed-to price is slightly less than $25,000.  Some landscaping (flowers, etc) will be needed after completion.

We are optimistic that the new work with drainage tile underneath the new concrete will solve the chronic water entering the church basement through the Foundation/South Wall.   The Ramp design will remain the same as built by Fr Schulte in 1984 – we found no alternative as practical or prettier.

The $25,000 cost will be funded by current donations and the accumulating collections from the We Belong to Christ Pledge Campaign of two years ago.  We have received two donations of $5,000 each – one from Peter Clark of Madison when he visited us on July 4th, and just this week, a parishioner who wishes to remain anonymous donated the other $5000.  Further such donations would be most welcome, but keeping in mind we still must meet our weekly envelope giving, the annual upcoming Diocese Annual Appeal, and of course, fulfilling the remaining unpaid “We Belong” pledges.  Please pray for the safe and successful completion of this needed work.

CCD Teachers Needed.   If able and available to teach religion on Wednesday nights, or be on the substitute list, please call our new Coordinator of Religious Education, Chris Magnuson at 457-2296.

St Charles Parents:  School begins September 1!  Please complete Registration. Carrol Hunder is available every morning to assist in the process and/or bring registration forms to the Open House.  The open house is scheduled for this Thursday, August 27 from 4-7PM.  Please consider sending your children to St. Charles (Pre/K– 8th).  The tuition is low, the quality high, and the love and presence of Jesus Christ is priceless and will make a difference in your child’s entire life.  Call 689-2642 for further information.

St. Charles Quilters will be starting their 2010 4th of July quilt project with a planning meeting today Sunday, August 23 at 5 PM in the Lello Room.  If you would like to join the quilting group this year, give Dana Malin a call at 689-2346 or just come to the planning meeting.  No experience required.

We would like to thank the parishioners of St. Charles for their kind expressions of sympathy in the loss of our aunt.  A special thanks to Father Roy and Frex for the beautiful service, to Ellen Umberger and Julie Tully for the music, and to the ladies who prepared and served the lunch.  (The Family of Irene Barilani)

Pro-Life Coordinator Activities:  As the Health Insurance legislation debates continue in Washington DC, the current restrictions on federally-funded abortions are at risk.  Our pro-Life coordinator Beth Mitchell can be reached at Watkins.Mitchell@gmail.com  She would like to get the e-mail addresses of any interested parishioners to forward them diocese and other ProLife E-Mail Information.

Family Fun Walk/Run: There will be a 5k Family Fun Walk/Run on Saturday, August 29 at Blackhawk Park in De Soto. This free public event is sponsored by the De Soto Area School’s Healthy Kids Initiative and includes a free healthy, brown bag lunch prepared by Chef Monique Hooker. The event runs from 9 AM – 12 PM, and free t-shirts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All area students, parents, families, and neighbors are invited to attend.
