Update on Replacement/Repair of Sidewalk, Ramp, and Front Church Steps& Additional Roof Work:
The concrete project is complete! Only landscaping to restore the flowers and replace the ProLife Marker with a bigger sign remain to be done. Any suggestions should be directed to Cathy Stevenson (648-3577) or Ed & Sue Bush.
Steel rain gutters with down spouts on each end were installed on the south roof at an additional cost of $837 to protect the sidewalk and ramp and provide additional protection from water penetrating the church basement. But the rain gutters (and pedestrians below) need to be protected with a ice and snow bar on the roof at an additional cost of about $2950.
Additionally, numerous small rust spots have become visible on both sides of the church roof, possibly caused by hail or perhaps normal paint-peeling and rusting of the steel roof which is 28 years old. Various Bldg & Grounds committee members and other parishioners noted that area farmers repaint their steel roofs, extending the life of the roof by many years. Thus, a protective repainting of the church steel roof will also be done at a cost of about $4200 to preserve and extend the life of the church roof. Both the ice/snow bar and repainting will be contracted for soon before an early snowstorm can occur.
With the spot tuckpointing and steeple repairs done in June, the ramp and sidewalk work with drainage tile underneath, the rain gutter, and the additional roof and landscaping work, we are confident that our 108 year-old beautiful church will remain in excellent condition for a long time to come. And the total cost of all this work this year will be about $33,000. The Bldg & Grounds Committee deserves our thanks! Also, we are very appreciative of the five donations totaling $12,000 received to-date for the project ($5,000; $5,000; $1000; $500; $500).
