Diocese Annual Appeal (DAA) The Bishop’s Video was shown at the Masses this weekend. An explanatory Letter of the DAA with brochure and pledge card will be mailed this Tuesday September 29 to each parishioner. Our assigned target amount for the Diocese Annual Appeal is $10,194. Any amounts exceeding the target are fully rebated back to the Parish. In recent years, we have received rebates of around $5000, an important source of parish income to pay our bills. A realistic pledge amount may be a repeat of your pledge from last year. If you were not able to pledge last year, please consider participating this year - even a small amount helps, plus it boosts parish morale when all respond, regardless of amount. Please return the pledge card in the enclosed envelope, either in the collection basket or mailed – don’t forget to sign the pledge card. Please pray over your pledge decision – weekly envelope collections are down from last year and thus the Parish needs these DAA rebates.
Status of projects. The concrete project is complete except for some minor painting of the railings. Otherwise, only landscaping to restore the flowers and replace the ProLife Marker with a bigger sign remain to be done. Any landscaping suggestions should be directed to Cathy Stevenson (648-3577) or Ed & Sue Bush.
The additional roof work: the roof was painted this last week at a cost of $4900 (the lower of two bids). The rust spots were ‘primed’ and the north side of the roof was also power-washed as the trees had caused some build-up of dirt on the north roof. The contractor told us that the entire church roof is of very high quality and that the rust spots were more normal wear rather than hail damage, and that structurally-speaking, the roof could easily last another 50 years or longer. The roof edgings to the peak on the alley side were also painted but the contractor painted them at no cost because paint on such edgings does not adhere well. The Ice and snow bar has been contracted for at a cost of $2100 (the lower of two bids) and will be installed soon.
We are very appreciative of a seventh donation of $2000 received this week for these projects. That brings the total received so far to $14,500 ($5,000; $5,000; $2000; $1000; $500; $500; $500). Keeping the church in proper and beautiful condition shows our love for God.
