Solomon's Plume Smilacina racemosa Solomon's Plume (Smilacina racemosa), also known as False Solomon's Seal, is a perennial native to open woodlands. It can also be found growing along sunny roadsides. Its graceful arching stems grow 1-3 feet tall and have terminal clusters of creamy-white flowers in May and June, followed by showy clusters of speckled berries which turn red by late summer or early fall. Easy to grow, Solomon's Plume prefers partial shade, soil rich in organic matter, and average moisture. Under favorable conditions it will spread to form colonies. Use Solomon's Plume in scattered clumps in either the shady border or woodland garden, or in mass plantings as a ground cover.
