Mary Bard

Mary Bard (English/Literature)

Raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I received my degree in English with a minor in French from the University of Wisconsin--Madison in 1974. After teaching English and living in the Washington, D.C. area for four years, I returned to Wisconsin and pursued various interests, including professional baking, gardening, birding, more teaching, and many outdoor activities. My family (husband Neil and sons Nathan and Jonathan) has lived on an old farm northwest of Richland Center since 1980, where we remain active in community projects and "old farmstead" restoration.

Lars Bergan (History)

Lars Bergan has been teaching History and English at the YIHS for the past three years. Before moving to Viroqua, he received his BA in History, English, and Economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Since then, he has worked as a researcher at the Library of Congress, a stock analyst on Wall Street, and a Fulbright Scholar in Jamaica.

Professional outdoor educator with 14 years experience leading outdoor programs with high school aged students.
He is the leading force behind our Rock Climbing trips we take at the beginning of each school year. With a B.A. in English, Bill has taught main lesson blocks on poetry and literature. He runs a private outdoor guiding service providing an array of wilderness trips for recreation, personal growth and inner healing.
