The Onion Lab    

A lab designed to locate plant cells and the structures found within them

   Use Ch. 8 for help.

Fill in your lab sheet with this information:

Cell:  Your Name

Locate: cytoplasm, cell wall, plasma membrane, nucleus, and nucleolus

Get a signature from a teacher when you find the  nucleus in onion cell under high power 

Draw 3 cells and label one showing cytoplasm, cell wall, plasma membrane, nucleus, and nucleolus

Procedure 

1. Obtain the materials necessary to complete the lab.

Each Group Needs:
One Slide
One Cover Slip

2. Obtain a section of onion membrane (the thinner the better)

3. Place membrane on slide and add ONE drop of stain - methylene blue
    (wait one min.)

4. Add one cover slip using good technique

5. Use your good microscope skills to locate cells under high power

6. Obtain a signature for finding the nucleus

7. Draw 3 cells and label one of them

How Will I Be Graded?

20 points overall
5 points for signature
5 points for labels
5 points for neatness and organization
5 points for good lab technique and following lab rules

When finished replace tools  properly put microscope away
rinse slide and place on paper towel on the black cart
