ACWSA Competition

The American Civil War Shooting Assn. (ACWSA) hosts a live-fire competition at the Boscobel Sportsman's Club during Civil War Weekend.  Original and replica black powder muskets and carbines of the Civil War era are fired at targets ranging up to 100 yards distance.  The competitors, both men and women dressed in period uniforms, shoot in matches as individuals, pairs, and teams.  Competition begins on Friday afternoon and continues to Sunday morning.  Saturday afternoon, shortly after the battle reenactments, there is live-fire competition for cannons.  Of special interest during the weekend are demonstrations involving Gatling guns, the predecessor of the modern machine gun.

The ACWSA also provides an opportunity for spectators to experience the Civil War first hand.  For a nominal donation to the GAR Hall, firearms instructors provide a Civil War firearm, ammunition, and instructions, which will enable the spectator to fire shots at a target.

The Sportsman's Club is located on Route 133, 1.5 miles east of Boscobel.  Spectator admission to the Club is free.
